Our Archaeology collections contain material evidence of human existence and industry in Hampshire from 500,000 years ago to the Second World War derived from major research excavations, rescue archaeology, field walking and stray finds.
The Winchester city collection is the largest urban archaeological collection arising from systematic excavation outside London, providing the most comprehensive overview of the character and development of any European city.
Also in the collections are a significant number of numismatic items and a small number of items from various locations across the world.
